Massage Prep

A massage is often over too soon, here are some simple steps to help you prepare for your personal relaxation time to optimize the benefits of a massage.

Hydrate/Eat

HYDRATE! HYDRATE! Plan to drink plenty of water through out the day before your massage, being hydrated allows for better manipulation of the muscles. DO NOT drink alcohol before the massage, being inebriated alters your ability to accurately feel and respond to the pressure. Make sure you eat enough to be filled but not over filled, you don’t want to be thinking about how hungry you are during your session.

Stretch

Gentle stretching before your session not only gets your muscles tissue ready to receive bodywork. It will also help you detect areas that may need additional work.

Breathe

There are many beneficial breathing techniques, the biggest challenge is incorporating this simple but effective self-care practice and finding the breathing technique that works best for you. We encourage you to explore different techniques, the most popular are listed below.

4-7-8 Breathing:
Inhale through your nose for four seconds, hold for seven seconds, and exhale forcefully from your mouth for eight seconds. Repeat.

Pursed-Lip Breathing:
Inhale through your nose for a count of two, purse your lips as if getting ready to whistle and exhale through your pursed lips for a count of four. Repeat.

Use the Restroom

Using the restroom before your session allows you to feel comfortable throughout your session.

Arrive Early

Arriving early allows you enough time to follow the tips above and be prepared for your session.

Listen to Music

Get a jump start on your stress relief by listening to relaxing music in the car on your way to your session. This allows for you to be in a better mental and physical state allowing you to receive the full benefits from your session.
